Jim Glaister has over 20 years of experience in the management of invasive weeds. Following redundancy from a leading knotweed contractor in 2025, he took up freelance work, creating Glaister Consultancy as an independent invasive weed consultancy service.

Jim was one of the first people in the country to take the Certificated Surveyor in Japanese Knotweed (CSJK) course run by the PCA and the first to pass the exam with Distinction, winning the PCA Student of the Year Award in 2015 as a result. Since passing the exam, Jim has joined the roster of examiners and markers for the CSJK qualification and has actively contributed to the development of the examination.
He has established close links with the PCA, serving on both the Education/Training and Annual Conference committees, and has created and delivers an online course on Invasive Bamboos and Other Grasses for the PCA. (Click see detail )

Jim is co-author and editor of Invasive Bamboos: Their impact and management in Great Britain and Ireland (currently being updated) and author of What You Need to Know about Japanese Knotweed: A UK guide for the non-specialist. Over the years, he has written several articles on a variety of invasive plant matters, as well as presenting about invasives to environmental consultants, mortgage advisors, county councils and organisations such as RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) and the PCA (Property Care Association). He is a contributor to the RICS subscription online information portal 'isurve'. He has been an Associate Member of the Academy of Experts since 2020. (Click to see detail)

He is qualified to undertake herbicide treatments, holding both the PA1 and PA6aW NPTC qualifications, and holds an Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) qualification in Managing Safely.
